IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN AND LUIS FIGO CELEBRATED TOGETHER THE LAUNCH OF THE PORTUGUESE YACHT CLUB CHRONO

During a luxury yacht-themed evening, Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen celebrated recently the

launch of the “Tribute to Portugal” edition limited to 50 watches, and produced exclusively for Boutique

dos Relógios Plus. The IWC Portuguese novelties launched at the SIHH in Geneva could also be admired,

such as the Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph.

A nautical themed evening was organised at the exclusive Kais venue, where a typical Portuguese

cocktail was served, to celebrate the presentation of the "Tribute to Portugal" watch.

We were honoured to count with representatives from IWC Schaffhausen during the Portuguese

Navigation Experience such as Hannes Pantl, Senior Member of the Board of Directors for the company,

Karoline Huber, International Marketing and Communications Director, and Mario Klein, Senior

Product Manager and desginer of the IWC Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph and the new limited

edition “Tribute to Portugal”.

During the cocktail, “The Spirit of Navigation” documentary starring Jean Reno was shown, after which the

General Manager of IWC Iberia, Maxime Ferté; the owner of Boutique Dos Relógios, Salomão Kolinski

thanked all the guests present and Hannes Pantli, delighted us with the history of the Portuguese watches

since 1939. The unconditional friend of the brand, Luis Figo, could not miss this event and presented the

limited edition “Tribute to Portugal”. The limited edition is presented in a 42,3mm case in red gold 5N of

18 ct, with an exceptional ardoise, arabo rodiato dial with red gold numbers, a detail specially designed

for this edition. This mechanical movement with a Pellaton automatic winding, date display, power reserve

display, Breguet spring, sapphire glass with antireflective coating on both sides presents a very unique

feature on the gold medallion rotor, the Portuguese seal admirably ingraved by the IWC Schaffhausen

watchmakers. As a final touch, the watch is presented with an alligator dark brown with 18ct red gold

stitching strap and placed in a special wooden numbered case.

Amongst the 250 special guests who were invited to presence this tribute we had the pleasure of receiving

journalists from all over the world, from Singapore to New York, from Brazil to Dubai and from Mexico to

many countries from Europe.

Famous Portuguese IWC passionates were also present during the event, such as Costinha, former

Atlético Madrid player and current manager of Sporting Lisbon; the model Diana Pereira and her husband,

former Formula 1 driver, Tiago Monteiro; internationally known Portuguese chef, Olivier; the actor José

Fidalgo, and, finally, the Olympic sailor Gustavo Lima.

From the neighbour country we could also count with the presence from the model Carla Goyanes,

actor Juanjo Puigcorbé and his wife and fellow actress Lola Marceli. Another international celebrity

who attended the event was Oliver Bierhoff, famous for scoring the first "golden goal" in the history of

international football for Germany at the 1996 European Cup final.

Given that the IWC Portuguese Navigation Experience included a navigation in 25-metre luxury yachts

the 13th and 14th of September, where secrets and techniques of navigation in past times were revealed,

and the importance of measuring time was demonstrated using an IWC watch. Expert skippers Sebastien

Josse, champion of 4 international sailing races and expert on around the world races and Francisco

Lobato a 25 year old Portuguese sailor with many achievements and the star of the national Olympic

sailing team were the specialist selected to take this navigation to good port, were also present this

important evening.

The perfect ending to the “Tribute to Portugal” soiree was provided by Rodrigo Costa Félix, who gave an

emotional rendition of a fado, inspired on the IWC Portuguese family.
