Higher officials deliberate on "Million Trees in Dubai" initiative

The Higher Committee on "Million Trees in Dubai" initiative held a meeting on Wednesday at Dubai Municipality. The meeting was attended by Dubai Police Chief Lt. Gen. Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Eng. Hussein Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality and Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Roads and Transport Authority and a number of officials in these bodies. The meeting discussed ways to develop and implement the environmental initiative and to cover different areas in the Emirate of Dubai in the coming years.

The Dubai Police Chief praised the efforts of the Municipality in the field of horticulture and parks saying that it confirms the civic body's support and its efforts to develop the sector.

He pointed out that the initiative of Dubai Police is complementary to the efforts undertaken by the Municipality for city beautification, plantation and spreading of green areas in the Emirate of Dubai.

The meeting discussed the mechanisms for implementing the "Million Trees in Dubai" initiative and it was agreed to be implement it in specific phases. During the first phase, cultivation will be done at the Dubai Bypass, the Dubai Business District, and the walkway located in the Jumeirah Beach.

An executive committee to hold periodic meetings and follow-up actions and projects on the ground, reporting to the Higher Committee was also named during the meeting.

The aim of this joint initiative is to plant a million trees in the Emirate of Dubai using the different types of trees found in the UAE environment. Big efforts involving significant costs importing plants from outside the country are not required for this.

The initiative will contribute in addressing the problem of environmental pollution, which will remain on the rise, if not dealt with scientific methods. If there is direct intervention at the highest levels to develop appropriate solutions that contribute in making the UAE a clean environment and a rich oasis, which would be home to everyone with full comfort and relaxation, there would be more green areas in the country, which can spread to the urban areas and the desert areas, all will accomplish a hygienic and healthy environment that all seek.
