Dulsco, ADNEC partner to deploy next-generation waste management technology

Abu Dhabi, UAE, January 23th, 2011:

Dulsco Abu Dhabi has announced the introduction of smart tracking technology to improve the efficiency of the waste recycling processes at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), the UAE capital’s premier events and exhibitions venue.

By launching the revolutionary service, Dulsco has become the first waste management services provider in the UAE to incorporate RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology for waste management. The service also forms an integral part of ADNEC’s “Re-use, Reduce Recycle” philosophy.

The new technology will considerably simplify and speed up the waste management processes at ADNEC, which stages in excess of 100 events each year.

Humaid Al Dhaheri, ADNEC’s Director of Finance & HR, said: “We are very pleased to launch this project close on the heels of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) which was held at ADNEC. This project, launched in partnership with Dulsco, underscores ADNEC’s ongoing environmental commitment. We will continue to invest in such initiatives in 2011 and beyond, and drive forward our sustainability agenda.”

Under the pilot project, all trucks, compactors, bins and waste skips at ADNEC are embedded with RFID tags that provide comprehensive data about the waste management activity. This information can be accessed online by the ADNEC and Dulsco teams, enabling better control and coordination in managing waste.

The RFID tags are scanned with the help of NFC (Near Field Communication) mobile readers when the bins for general or recyclable waste are emptied or transported, allowing the client access to accurate information through the web about the volume, type of waste and, how this is being managed.

“We took this bold initiative to incorporate RFID technology in our waste management process and developed a system based on ADNEC’s requirements,” explained Mohammed Bilal Hasan, General Manager, Information Technology at Dulsco.

“Any transaction related to the collection of general and recyclable waste, which were manually carried out earlier, are now electronically recorded through the mobile NFC readers and data is sent to the central server via GPRS. ADNEC can access this near real-time information anytime anywhere as it is available through secured web access,” he added..

Prakash Parab - Director, Waste Management Services, added, “This new technology has taken the waste management process to the next level and ably demonstrates our commitment to our customers. We believe in continuous improvement and constantly strive to provide our customers additional value with the quality of our services and by investing in infrastructure and technology.”
