Consul General of Japan Visits Dubai Silicon Oasis




Dubai-UAE: 9 February, 2011- Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Vice-Chairman and CEO of Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority, today received His Excellency Takashi Ashiki, Consul General of Japan, at the headquarters of Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), the Integrated Free Zone Technology Park.
Discussions primarily focused on identifying potential collaboration opportunities for knowledge transfer, given Japan’s technologically advanced economy. Dr. Zarooni also briefed the diplomat on the latest developments within the high-tech business park.
Following the discussions, the Consul General of Japan was given a guided tour of DSO that hosts the regional headquarters and R&D facilities for technology companies, ranging from IT and electronics to the telecommunications, semiconductor, microelectronic and energy sectors.
The visit comes at a time when a positive outlook is projected for the UAE technology sector. According to ‘United Arab Emirates Information Technology Report Q1’ published by Business Monitor International, UAE spending on IT products and services is projected to reach US$3.5bn in 2011 and anticipated to grow at 8 per cent CAGR for 2011-2015.
