INJAZ-UAE, a non-profit business education organization and a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide, has delivered its running series the ‘You can b!’ Innovation Day Camp in collaboration with Young Arab Leaders (YAL). YAL will also support the delivery of eight workshops this year and engage its members as volunteers, as both organizations share a common vision to take part in inspiring youth. Through such partnerships and collaborations, INJAZ-UAE and YAL will work together to encourage youth to become entrepreneurs and prepare them to be active future professional leaders.
Seventy Five students from public and private schools and UAE University were under close guidance and mentorship of the YAL volunteers. Students engaged in out of the box educational activities emphasizing the INJAZ model of experiential learning and challenged one another during the day. By the end, nine teams competed to pitch their business ideas to a distinguished panel of YAL business leaders to select the winning team.
“We have put our heads together with YAL and this partnership truly hits the nail, bringing the best of worlds and translating our mutual vision for Arab youth into a reality” commented Sulaf Al-Zu’bi, CEO of INJAZ-UAE. “Working together to inspire our youth through today’s business leaders can empower them and give students the tools to create their own economic opportunities, which can alleviate the unemployment challenges that permeate the Arab world – there’s a current sense of urgency and I’m glad we chose not to wait.”
YAL, an organization that spearheads efforts to support the future young leaders in the Arab Region, works actively to empower youth through entrepreneurship education. INJAZ-UAE is a partnership between the business community, educators and volunteers -working together to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. This sets a unique partnership between both organizations that strive to support youth to compete effectively in the new global economy.
Commenting on the partnership, Ms. Muna Al Gurg, Chairwoman of the Young Arab Leaders UAE Chapter said, “Through YAL’s partnership with INJAZ-UAE we want to achieve a long term impact on the Arab Youth who will be the future leaders of our region. Our aim is to provide the youth with the opportunities to develop and strengthen skills necessary in the working world, to deliver a better tomorrow to them. YAL is working towards broadening the knowledge base of our youth to create a strong workforce for tomorrow and to encourage intercultural understanding”
The purpose of the Innovation Camp is to introduce the concepts of entrepreneurship, innovation, and creativity that are deemed crucial for student’s professional and personal development, and a key contributor to develop their work-readiness skills in an increasing competitive environment. Other critical skills that students will adopt include problem-solving, decision-making, team work and communications, which support their abilities to shape their entrepreneurial mindset and succeed in the future economy of the country. Students are then eligible to participate in further INJAZ-UAE programs, namely the JA Success Skills® and JA Company Program®.
“I would like to express my gratitude for all INJAZ-UAE’s dedication and generosity that benefited countless others; from the volunteers and trainers support to the unlimited contribution of knowledge and amusing material course which truly made a difference in my life and will encourage me to pursue further Injaz courses,” commented Abdul Aziz Abahendi from United Arab Emirates University -Al Ain.
The Innovation Camp had been piloted in the UAE in December 2009, through seed funding from Barclays Bank. Since then, other corporate partners and organizations have taken part across 15 emerging markets in the Middle East and Africa, reaching an estimated 8,000 students in its first year.
