Juniper Networks Announces Security Leadership for Juniper QFabric Architecture

Delivers Industry’s Only Integrated Solution to Provide Visibility, Enforcement and Scale across the Data Center Fabric

Dubai, UAE., – Mar 01, 2011 – Juniper Networks (NYSE: JNPR) today unveiled the security strategy for QFabric Data Center architecture, also announced today.  QFabric is a single layer data center fabric that removes barriers to efficiency in the data center. Juniper’s scalable data center security is enhanced by QFabric’s ability to deliver any-to-any data center resource availability. This enables massive scale and comprehensive visibility, while at the same time reducing the complexity of the data center.

In the past, traditional network architectures were only secured by individual firewalls/intrusion prevention systems (IPS) that regulated traffic flow to and from individual servers. With the widespread deployment of virtual machines (VM) and distributed applications, traditional network security architectures lack visibility and enforcement to secure the traffic in the VM infrastructure at scale.  Additionally, the ease of creating, changing and moving VMs is increasing the risk of mis-configurations and unwarranted access to valuable data center assets.

In the face of these security realities, innovation and integration across physical and virtual environments and strong management capabilities are required. Juniper addresses security in physical networking environments with the Juniper Networks® SRX Series Services Gateway, virtual needs with the newly announced Juniper Networks vGW Virtual Gateway, and management with Junos® Space Security Design and Security Threat Response Manager.  Juniper’s integrated solution is the industry’s first offering to provide security at scale for both physical and virtual network environments.

“It is critical for enterprises to have security as part of their network fabric with an architecture that ensures scale, visibility and flexible enforcement,” said Chris Christensen, program vice president, IDC.  “Juniper’s security strategy and solution is the only one I have seen to addresses the complex needs of the next generation data center to address both the physical and virtual environments.”

Juniper’s approach to securing QFabric architecture provides:
·        Tight integration with QFabric architecture to enable visibility and security enforcement across any traffic flow in the data center
·        High-performance implementation, allowing five times more VMs per VMware ESX hosts than alternatives
·        Zone integrity that bridges across both physical and virtual networks
·        Enforcement of security to address the dynamic VM infrastructure

“The growing needs for expanded data center capabilities and virtualization have forced organizations to adjust the way they approach traditional data center security,”  said Mark Bauhaus, executive vice president and general manager, Device and Network Services group at Juniper Networks. “With Juniper’s approach to securing QFabric, we enable the next generation of massive scale and comprehensive security while at the same time reducing the complexity of the data center.”
