2nd joint mass wedding of Dubai govt staff held at Shindagha; Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid covers wedding expenses of 54 nationals

Deputy Ruler of Dubai, UAE Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubai Municipality His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Wednesday attended the second joint Mass Wedding of the employees of two government departments in Dubai.

The event, “Dubai Wedding,” held at Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House in Shindagha area saw the wedding reception of 54 employees of Dubai Municipality and the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities (DIACA). The ceremony was attended by a number of dignitaries and officials of government departments in the Emirate of Dubai.

Sheikh Hamdan congratulated the grooms and wished them a happy family life crowned by success. The 54 employees included husband and wife in the same workplace as well as spouses of employees who work in the two departments. There were 45 employees from the Municipality and nine from the DIACA.

A colourful ceremony marked the occasion, which included performance of songs by a traditional troupe, folklore dances, military band as well as laser shows and fireworks. The wedding was attended by a large number of guests including dignitaries and relatives of bridegrooms.

The organization of the second joint mass wedding was in line with the approach established by the late President Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and in implementation of the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum on the rationalization of wedding expenses, and to avoid extravagance and waste that burdens the grooms in the early stages of their life.

Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality said that this ceremony comes as part of the country’s policy aimed at seeking ways to serve the youth of the nation in all fields.

“It is an accomplishment of the objectives of Dubai Municipality to achieve a progressive society with high standard and comfort of living and to consolidate the bonds of brotherhood, solidarity and cooperation in the fabric of society.

Lootah noted that Dubai Municipality has been organizing mass weddings for its staff since nine years and this event comes in implementation of the initiative of Sheikh Hamdan for encouraging young citizens to conduct mass wedding ceremonies without wasting money as he bears all the costs of these mass weddings.

The event is considered to be the realization of an excellent partnership between two departments, which reflects the determination of the Government of Dubai to provide good quality services to its citizens, who will come together in a social event, which will give them saving economically, he said.

“It is a precious day for our beloved country and this mass wedding confirms the magnanimity of our wise leadership,” said Dr. Hamad Bin Al Sheikh Ahmed Shaibani, Director General of the DIACA.

“Our participation in this joint wedding ceremony is part of our keenness to support partnerships and contributions to the events and activities useful to serve our community and the people of our country,” Shaibani said.
