DM, DSOA hold exhibition to mark World Environment Day

Dubai: 8 June, 2009 – Dubai Silicon Oasis Authority (DSOA) and Dubai Municipality organized an exhibition to mark the World Environment Day, receiving valuable inputs on green issues, including global warming, green buildings, water conservation techniques, planting of trees, and the recycling of electronic equipment.

On the sidelines of the exhibition at DSOA headquarters, educational workshops and seminars were also held. Led by green industry experts, the events highlighted the need to protect the environment and the role of each individual in collectively contributing towards the cause.

The exhibition witnessed the participation of the Ministry Of Environment and Water, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA), Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), Environmental Centre for Arab Towns, Environment Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), and the International Association for Human Values and Art of Living.

Inaugurated by Eng. Hussain Lootah, Director General of the Municipality and Dr. Mohammed Al Zarouni, Chief Executive Officer of DSOA, the day’s event was organized in association with Dubai Municipality.

Dr. Mohammed Al Zarouni said: “As a leading technology park in the region, we believe our actions have a direct impact on the environment. We feel that our activities in DSO such as solar energy and green buildings mark our commitment to protect the environment as well as educate others about the need for better ways to manage ecological challenges."

“We believe everyone has a responsibility to conserve and protect the environment, and organizing such events will encourage us to act responsibly and take constructive preventive steps. We are grateful for Dubai Municipality’s collaboration in organizing this event. We are also appreciative of the participation of the Ministry of Environment and Water, DEWA, RTA and other entities that partnered with us to host the seminars and workshops on ecology.”

Green issues have become predominant in the UAE, with the country pitching to host the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The UAE officially submitted its bid to host the interim and eventually permanent seat of IRENA earlier in May, a move that is aligned with the country’s clear commitment towards the development of renewable energy.

As the region’s leading Business Park for semiconductors and microelectronics industries, Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) plays a leading role in highlighting the need to protect the environment for future generations. The high-technology cluster also organises events to actively engage the community in raising awareness on important key social and environmental issues.

DSO is a free zone technology park for semiconductor, microelectronics and other high technology-based companies looking to set up their regional headquarters and R&D facilities in the Middle East and North Africa region.
