BIN SULAYEM MEET INDIAN TRAVEL INDUSTRY INDUSTRY OFFICIALS; TAAI CONSIDERS DUBAI AS A VENUE FOR 2009 INDIA TRAVEL CONGRESS


A delegation of senior officials of India’s premium travel body, Travel Agents Association of India’ (TAAI), met with Mr. Khalid A Bin Sulayem, Director General, Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) in Dubai.



The team was led by Mr. Rajinder Rai, President – TAAI; Mr. Sunil Kumar, Secretary General & TAAI Convention Chairman; Mr. Iqbal Mulla, Honorary Treasurer. Also present were Mr. Eyad Ali Abdul Rahman, DTCM Executive Director Media Relations and Business Development, Mr. Hamad bin Mejren, DTCM Executive Director Business Tourism, Mr. Saleh Al Geziry, DTCM Director Overseas Promotions, and Mr. Carl Vaz, Director – DTCM’s India Representative Office.



During the meeting, the delegation chief emphasized close cooperation between the Indian & Dubai travel trade which has resulted in India being one of the top source markets for visitors which grew by over 20 per cent in 2008 to touch 493,318. The first quarter of 2009 was equally impressive registering a growth of seven per cent of Indian visitors to the Emirate with 126,490 travellers staying in Dubai’s hotels and hotel apartments.



The delegation briefed DTCM officials of their intention to conduct the 58th Indian Travel Congress in Dubai. TAAI comprises of over 2400 members and it is expected that over 1800 travel professionals comprising Indian travel agents, tour operators, hoteliers and allied members will converge from all over India into the Emirate.



The Indian Travel Congress is expected to be held in late September of 2009 and will provide a platform for its members to experience firsthand the Emirate’s infrastructural development, tourism attractions and hospitality industry. The visit by members of the Indian travel community will help bolster Dubai’s promotional marketing initiatives in this key source market.



DTCM has been actively promoting Dubai as a year round destination through its Mumbai based representative office for over 11 years since 1997.
