12,000 prizes, 40,000 giveaways in two-week health campaign DM offers two cars for best walkers; "Yalla Walk" campaign from Saturday



Dubai Municipality on Thursday announced two cars as the grand prizes for the best walkers in the "Yalla Walk," campaign it launches Saturday. The largest health awareness campaign, organized to attract the public to the 23 walking tracks built by the civic body in the Emirate of Dubai, will also be an opportunity to win 12,000 prizes and 40,000 giveaways.

The best male and female walker will get a car each, said Obaid Salem Al Shamsi, Assistant Director General of Dubai Municipality for International Affairs and Partnerships Sector, who announced the prizes of the campaign at a press conference at Zaabeel Park.

He said the event will be supported by Al Rawabi, Fitness First, Emax, Fun City, Al Ahli Driving Centre, Dubai Media Incorporated, Anlene, Roche, Emirates Arthritis Foundation and All As One.  The campaign, which will run from 5 to 19 March, 2011 across five parks in Dubai, will be kicked off at 5 pm on Saturday, 5th Mach at Safa Park.

Al Shamsi emphasized that the campaign targets the use of walking tracks in the Emirate of Dubai in accordance with the strategic plan of Dubai, as the walking tracks in Dubai are built as per international standards.

He said the campaign will also be organized at Al Mamzar Park, Al Khawaneej Walking Track, Zabeel Park and Al Barsha Park, while the closing ceremony will be organized in Al Mamzar Park on 19 March at 5:00 pm.

Al Shamsi said that the campaign is open to all nationalities and age groups, as the focus is on the promotion of the walking tracks, and making it one the most prominent projects.
He said the prizes include LCD TVs, home theatres, Black Berry phones, play stations, ipads, MP3 Players, ipods, four annual memberships to Fitness First, monthly memberships, and discounted memberships to registered walkers, over 2,200 Fund City children vouchers, over 10,000 kids toys, interactive caps, wristbands, sports bags, T-shirts, baseball caps, Al Rawabi goody bags, soft drinks, and free bone density scanning from Anlene across all give parks for two weeks.

Registration process for the campaign has begun on March 1 and will continue until March 6. To participate in the competition in the campaign people can register through the website  www.yallawalk.comOn registering the name the participant will be sent a registration number through e-mail, and registration number must be printed on the badge to get entry to the contest. People can also register directly in the parks where the park staff will assist them, or at the Fitness First clubs.

Participants will be provided a badge, in addition to a wrist band containing a barcode, which must be scanned on the device, provided at the beginning of each track, the badge should be swiped on the device again when ending the walking. This is for calculating electronically the distance walked by each participant, who can also visit the website and enter the page devoted to him to get all the details and distances.
