Etisalat brings the Long Term Evolution (LTE) Mobile technology 4G technology to the Middle East


LTE can provide downlink speed of 140Mbps and 50Mbps uplink speed
Dubai, UAE- October 22nd , 2009- Furthering its vision of bringing the latest technologies & advanced services in the UAE to expand customer’s reach, Etisalat today announced the trial of advanced Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology, popularly known as the latest step toward the 4th generation (4G) of radio technologies designed to increase the capacity and speed of mobile networks. This pilot project brings the first LTE application in the Middle East. Through LTE, Etisalat will be able to provide downlink speed of 140Mbps and 50Mbps uplink speed, reaching yet another technological milestone.

At the GITEX 2009, Etisalat is demonstrating the high speed downloading possible with LTE at their stand. The technology trials will gauge the performance of LTE and will showcase LTE’s ability to provide the highest wireless broadband coverage and speed, proving its high performance with short latency and full mobility.

“The successful LTE trials mark a significant step in Etisalat's evolution to the next generation network. The Etisalat LTE solution will provide an all-IP, high speed, low latency and high frequency efficiency mobile network. LTE technology will deliver new mobile data rates, which will enable Etisalat to introduce the fastest mobile broadband experience to their customers, with a download speed of over 140Mbps.
Besides speed, LTE also is Etisalat’s next step towards continuous innovation to bring the best to their customers. LTE will enable our customers to leverage these unmatched speeds for next generation applications like mobile video conferencing, Mobile gaming and other advanced multimedia applications,” commented Ahmad Julfar, Chief Operating Officer at Etisalat.

LTE, the latest step toward the 4th generation (4G) of radio technologies, is designed to increase the capacity and speed of mobile networks. Considered to be the most advanced technology globally, LTE will provide high speed wireless broadband to the UAE, opening infinite new options for and innovative business avenues like mobile-education and mobile health check-ups.
