Four teams from Our Own High School to represent the UAE at World Robot Olympiad


Dubai, October 15, 2009: Four teams from Our Own High School, Al Warqa’a will be the envy of their friends as they head to South Korea for the World Robot Olympiad, taking place at the end of November 2009.This follows their victory at the UAE National Robot Olympiad 2009 where they emerged the champions in the Open and Regular categories.

John Mathai, Principal, Our Own High School, said: “We are very happy that our students won such a challenging competition; this is the result of their ability to work smoothly as a team and the guidance they received from their teachers. This is the fourth consecutive year in which Our Own High School represents the UAE at the World Robot Olympiad and I am certain that they will make the school and the UAE proud.”

Shalaj Lawania, Richin Kabra and Hossein Jemaati all from Grade 10, emerged as winners in the Junior High Regular category, while Grade 11 students Tarun
Rajwanshi, Rounak Mehta and Vikky Kurani came in first, in the Senior High Regular Category, at the UAE National Robot Olympiad.

In the Junior High Open category, the team of Alphin Varghese, Kunal Nagpal and Sunaal Philip Mathew (all of Grade 10) won the first place and the team comprising Grade 10 students Prithvi Devanandan, Adithya Chandrasekar and Suneet Pansare placed second.

The Elementary team, comprised of Abhishek Chandrasekhar, Shreyas Eswaran and Harith Manoj Kumar, all in Grade 4, were also presented an awarded for their participation as the youngest team to enter the competition.

“We are very excited about going to South Korea to compete! The idea of our project was inspired by Mr. Rama Rao, Teacher-in-charge of Robotics in our school” said Adithya Chandrasekar who won in the Regular category. Their robot collected coloured balls and pocketed them on a play mat with obstacles that was pre-set by the competition’s organisers.
