Flip Video innovator Jonathan Kaplan inspires Dubai Women’s College Students
Kaplan spoke about the genesis of the Flip Video family of camcorders and recounted anecdotes of his entrepreneurial journey (in 2009, Cisco acquired Pure Digital Technologies, the company Kaplan founded and maker of Flip Video camcorders). Further, the audience had an opportunity to ask Kaplan questions about the challenges, lessons learned, and rewards of launching a business.
Addressing the role and future of Flip Video and the personal video market, Kaplan said, “Flip Video has changed the way people capture and share video because it makes it simple, accessible and fun for everyone. This is truly an exciting time in the personal video market. Without question, personal video is taking off in a big way, and I expect this trend to continue.”
“I am delighted to be able to share my experiences with the next generation of UAE entrepreneurs,” Kaplan commented. “The students’ enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit is impressive and a testament to the great potential that exists in this market.”
Following Kaplan’s speech, ten students were selected at random to receive a Flip Video camcorder. As of November 10, Flip Video camcorders are available in stores.
“Today’s Q&A session is another example of how Dubai Women’s College prepares students for life after academia and our ongoing efforts to ensure that they have access to leaders in the business community. As our industry partner, Cisco has provided DWC with considerable expertise and time and today’s visit by Jonathan Kaplan is the highlight of this valued relationship,” said Dr. Behjat Al Yusuf, associate director of Dubai Women’s College.
