Dubai & Kuwait, March 21, 2011 – For the fourth year running amateur golfers from the region have gathered to participate in the world’s most popular tournament series for amateur golfers – the Audi quattro Cup. With national teams competing in Kuwait and Dubai, for the first time ever both winning national teams will proceed directly to the World Final in Mission Hills, Hong Kong from November 7th – 11th, 2011.
Invited by Al Nabooda Automobiles and Fouad Alghanim & Sons Automotive, over 200 golfers competed in the two regional tournaments in Kuwait and Dubai to reach the prestigious final round of the Audi quattro Cup. With a score of 47 Stableford points Dubai will be represented by Lyndon Dafert and Tyrone Evans. The second team for the World Final, representing Kuwait, are Bader Al-Turkait and Husni El Azem, with a winning score of 42 Stableford points.
For Dubai and Kuwait respectively, nearest to the pin was claimed by Christina Lu and D. S. Lee for the ladies and Richard Mylrae and Min Ryu for the men. Longest drive went to Tina Hasper and D. S. Lee as well as Anish Bhatia and Fannie Bester.
The Dubai tournament to place under slightly hazy skies on The Montgomerie - an 18 hole, par 72 Championship golf course designed by Colin Montgomerie in association with Desmond Muirhead. The Kuwaiti Audi quattro Cup was held under excellent weather conditions on the 18-hole golf course of Sahara Kuwait Resort, which was crafted by Peter Harradine and built to PGA championship standards.
World finalist Lyndon Dafert commented on the team’s success “We feel extremely honored to represent the Middle East in the World Final together with Bader and Husni from Kuwait. We are excited to meet with our contenders from over 50 other nations and hope for fierce competition for the title of Amateur World Champion!”
The Audi quattro Cup is highly popular around the world. The tournament series was established in 1991 and is held as “foursomes with selection drive” for teams of two players each. In 2010 Audi dealers from 52 different countries worldwide organized a total of 760 tournaments and over 87.000 amateur golfers participated. Over one million golfers took part in one of the Audi quattro Cup tournaments in the last 20 years.
