A group of children with special needs were given a sweet treat recently, when they visited the Dunkin’ Donuts production kitchen in Sharjah and were given a first-hand, close-up look at how their favourite donuts and baked goods are made.
The group of kids, from the Special Needs charitable foundation Manzil, were taken on a special tour around the vast, state-of-the-art facility where much of the sweet treats that form the Dunkin’ Donuts range originate. Guided by senior officials from Dunkin’ Donuts, the children were then treated to a fun evening and were finally seen off after an eventful day with goody bags of sweet treats and gifts to mark the visit.
The visit was one among similar initiatives organised by Dunkin’ Donuts’ in order to contribute to the welfare of the wider community. General Manager, David Rodgers said: “We are extremely grateful to the people of the UAE for their great response to our products. We have grown tremendously in a short period of time and are proud to be able to give something back to society by giving these special children a fun time.”
Manzil started in 1999, when a group of parents and volunteers got together to form a special family support group for children with special needs. Growing into a centre that provides guidance, care, training and support for children between the ages of 4 and 26 years, Manzil today operates under the umbrella of the Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services. The centre today caters to students from 9 different nationalities and is supervised by well-trained special needs professionals from around the world.
