IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN AND LUIS FIGO CELEBRATED TOGETHER THE LAUNCH OF THE PORTUGUESE YACHT CLUB CHRONO
During a luxury yacht-themed evening, Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen celebrated recently the
launch of the “Tribute to Portugal” edition limited to 50 watches, and produced exclusively for Boutique
dos Relógios Plus. The IWC Portuguese novelties launched at the SIHH in Geneva could also be admired,
such as the Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph.
A nautical themed evening was organised at the exclusive Kais venue, where a typical Portuguese
cocktail was served, to celebrate the presentation of the "Tribute to Portugal" watch.
We were honoured to count with representatives from IWC Schaffhausen during the Portuguese
Navigation Experience such as Hannes Pantl, Senior Member of the Board of Directors for the company,
Karoline Huber, International Marketing and Communications Director, and Mario Klein, Senior
Product Manager and desginer of the IWC Portuguese Yacht Club Chronograph and the new limited
edition “Tribute to Portugal”.
During the cocktail, “The Spirit of Navigation” documentary starring Jean Reno was shown, after which the
General Manager of IWC Iberia, Maxime Ferté; the owner of Boutique Dos Relógios, Salomão Kolinski
thanked all the guests present and Hannes Pantli, delighted us with the history of the Portuguese watches
since 1939. The unconditional friend of the brand, Luis Figo, could not miss this event and presented the
limited edition “Tribute to Portugal”. The limited edition is presented in a 42,3mm case in red gold 5N of
18 ct, with an exceptional ardoise, arabo rodiato dial with red gold numbers, a detail specially designed
for this edition. This mechanical movement with a Pellaton automatic winding, date display, power reserve
display, Breguet spring, sapphire glass with antireflective coating on both sides presents a very unique
feature on the gold medallion rotor, the Portuguese seal admirably ingraved by the IWC Schaffhausen
watchmakers. As a final touch, the watch is presented with an alligator dark brown with 18ct red gold
stitching strap and placed in a special wooden numbered case.
Amongst the 250 special guests who were invited to presence this tribute we had the pleasure of receiving
journalists from all over the world, from Singapore to New York, from Brazil to Dubai and from Mexico to
many countries from Europe.
Famous Portuguese IWC passionates were also present during the event, such as Costinha, former
Atlético Madrid player and current manager of Sporting Lisbon; the model Diana Pereira and her husband,
former Formula 1 driver, Tiago Monteiro; internationally known Portuguese chef, Olivier; the actor José
Fidalgo, and, finally, the Olympic sailor Gustavo Lima.
From the neighbour country we could also count with the presence from the model Carla Goyanes,
actor Juanjo Puigcorbé and his wife and fellow actress Lola Marceli. Another international celebrity
who attended the event was Oliver Bierhoff, famous for scoring the first "golden goal" in the history of
international football for Germany at the 1996 European Cup final.
Given that the IWC Portuguese Navigation Experience included a navigation in 25-metre luxury yachts
the 13th and 14th of September, where secrets and techniques of navigation in past times were revealed,
and the importance of measuring time was demonstrated using an IWC watch. Expert skippers Sebastien
Josse, champion of 4 international sailing races and expert on around the world races and Francisco
Lobato a 25 year old Portuguese sailor with many achievements and the star of the national Olympic
sailing team were the specialist selected to take this navigation to good port, were also present this
important evening.
The perfect ending to the “Tribute to Portugal” soiree was provided by Rodrigo Costa Félix, who gave an
emotional rendition of a fado, inspired on the IWC Portuguese family.

EXCALIBUR THE PEERLESS COLLECTION FROM ROGER DUBUIS
The new subtly remodelled Excalibur collection has been modernised. The bezel has become more pronounced thanks to more dynamic, deeper fluting. JEANRICHARD DEDICATES ANOTHER DARING CREATION TO MV AGUSTA MOTORCYCLES
While JEANRICHARD’s watch-making DNA is deeply rooted in the Swiss watch manufacturing tradition, its spirit is clearly influenced by Italian culture.
MV Agusta is a legendary name in the motorcycling world. It has in particular dominated international racing for many years, winning no less than 75 world championship titles. MV Agusta’s 12 victories in 1956, as well as John Surtees’ triumph in the 500cc world championship earned MV Agusta its International notoriety. It was however in the 1970s that the brand reached its peak with star driver Giacomo Agostini, who dominated motorcycling competition for almost a decade in the 350cc and 500cc categories. Above and beyond this impressive track record, MV Agusta is chiefly renowned for the refinement and aesthetic appeal of its prestigious motorcycles, now developed in the CRC research centre. It is this same centre that develops highly exclusive models especially designed and produced in limited series.
Far more than even style, it is the shared passion for mechanical engineering precision that is the prime common denominator between JEANRICHARD and MV Agusta, as both brands are wholeheartedly involved in developing their heritage and know-how. With the launch of its JR1000 calibre in 2004, JEANRICHARD joined the select circle of watch companies producing their own proprietary movements. Meanwhile, production of the engines and frames, as well as assembly of MV Agusta motorbikes was being handled at the company’s manufacturing sites in Varese, Italy.
“Brutale”, an Italian word synonymous of extreme virility and power, is the name given to one of the two emblematic lines of MV Agusta motorbikes. JEANRICHARD’s “Chronoscope” collection adopts these same codes.
In the same way as the models introduced in 2008, the “Chronoscope MV Agusta Brutale Nera” is inspired by the emblematic elements of the Brutale motorbikes, and embodies to an even greater degree the extreme virility referred to above. With its sportive and extremely masculine design, the watch features JEANRICHARD’s famous hand-decorated in-house manufactured movement JR1000, which can be admired through the smoky transparent decorated case-back with the MV Agusta logo.
The generously-sized case (43 x 43 mm ) of this limited edition of 290 pieces is entirely covered in rubber. The stamped dial mimics the design of a motorcycle wheel rim and is composed of a single element, with a raised chronograph as markers to accentuate the visual idea of depth. The chronograph’s counters reflect the sportive aesthetics of the instruments on a motorcycle dashboard.
The subsidiary seconds’ zone located at 3 o’clock, with its rotating disk and Arabic numerals, adds to the watch’s aggressive design; so does the use of the red colour on the dial.
The bezel, push-buttons and case-back are in black PVD coated titanium, the crown in titanium. A tachymeter has been added to the bezel. The push-buttons have been designed to fit the shape of the case, making the watch extremely comfortable to wear. The calfskin watchband has visible red stitching and is attached to the case with a special insert system. Limited series of 290 numbered watches.

MARC ANTHONY WEARS A MONTBLANC WATCH
At multiple events, including the Oscars Academy Awards, Hollywood superstar Marc Anthony has been
wearing his Montblanc 4810 ring, Montblanc 4810 carnivale collection ring, Montblanc Rodeo Drive time walker
Marc Anthony’s was born Marco Antonio Muniz, named after a Mexican singer by the same name. The son
of Puerto Rican immigrants, he was tutored in music and composition by his musician-father, Felipe Muniz.
Growing up among musicians, he realized early that he loved to sing and would use his family’s kitchen table
in Spanish Harlem as a platform, belting out the one song he knew.
Despite his growing fame in the Latin music world, Anthony was relatively unknown in his own country until the
1999 release of Marc Anthony, his first pop CD in English. Fueled by the compelling rhythm of the album’s first
single, “I Need to Know”, the album spent 11 weeks in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100.
Today, with over 8 million albums sold worldwide, Marc Anthony is the top selling Latin music artist of all
time. But his career doesn’t begin and end with his music. Anthony also starred on Broadway in Paul Simon’s
Capeman and on the silver screen with roles in The Substitute, Hackers, and most recently in Man on Fire
with Denzel Washington. And, of course, there are his two marriages. The first, to a former Miss Universe,
Dayanara Torres, ended in divorce and was swiftly followed by his current tabloid-worthy marriage to Jennifer
Lopez. Recently he was included in a top ten list of influential New Yorkers compiled by New York Magazine.

MILUS LAUNCHES TIRION TRIRETROGRADE SECONDS DLC WATCH
Characterised by its triple retrograde seconds, the TIRION TriRetrograde watch is a mixture of elegant watchmaking, technology and playfulness. Its unique style which plays on sophistication and perpetual mobility has made it one of Milus' emblems. Today, it is being presented in a sporting version with its DLC-treated case, its dial and its bezel in carbon-fibre.
The power of a style is frequently measured by its capacity to transform without betraying, and the style of the TIRION TriRetrograde is genuinely of this calibre. Open, multiply-layer dial, three retrograde seconds hands, visible bridges; Milus has succeeded in using these elements to create a signature that is unique, instantly recognisable and capable of being divided into multiple registers. Successively classical in skeleton version or more “casual” in titanium version, here is the TIRION TriRetrograde in a considerably more sporting version.
Whilst one sees in it all the codes which have built its success, in particular with the three seconds hands pirouetting on its dial, the overall style has been rewritten so as to express dynamism and performance. Thus its case remains a model of watchmaking sophistication with nine components and its added horns, but it has been given DLC – diamond like carbon – a treatment which is characterized by a deep black colour in superb matt. Far more resistant than PVD, this coating also offers excellent protection against knocks and scratches. Milus has chosen a material for the dial and the bezel that combines lightness and extreme stability: carbon fibre. Its ultra-technical fabric whose appearance recalls that of protective scales, brings out above all the elements situated on the front of the dial: the supporting bridges of the seconds hands, the three railway segments of 20 seconds each and, of course, the hour and minute hands for excellent legibility of the overall item. The leather strap, whose appearance authentically reproduces that of the carbon fibre, gives the watch a yet more dynamic spirit still.
On the movement side, the TIRION TriRetrograde Seconds DLC is equipped with a mechanical, automatic-winding, Swiss-made calibre visible via the transparent base of its case. Its sophistication can be seen from the oscillating weight, cut away in the shape of the Milus logo, as well as from the exclusive Milus 3838 mechanism which enables the display of the triple retrograde seconds.
At the interface of watchmaking sophistication and eminently sporting design, this new declination of the TIRION TriRetrograde illustrates beyond doubt the perpetuity now acquired by this star model of the Milus brand.

BOUCHERON &GIRARD-PERREGAUX - HAUTE JOAILLERIE MEETS HAUTE HORLOGERIE; BOUCHERON LADYHAWKE TOURBILLON WATCH GIRARD-PERREGAUX MOVEMENT
Meetings that give rise to great stories are seldom fortuitous. The relationship between Boucheron, founded in 1858 and the first jeweller to establish itself in place Vendôme, and Girard-Perregaux, the Swiss Haute Horlogerie watch manufacture dating back to 1791, has its roots in a shared passion for creating exceptional objects.
The links between Parisian jewellers and Swiss watch manufactures are age-old. The most prestigious Maisons in place Vendôme have a long history of working together with their Swiss partners to produce their watches. Their watchmaking creativity and enterprise have thus for decades been primed by Swiss precision mechanics.
The MaisonBoucheron has been producing watches since its inception, earning it the honorary title of “bijoutier du temps” in recognition of its talent for creating exceptional timepieces.
As far back as 1867, Boucheron was commended by the jury at the Paris Universal Exhibition for presenting an “intriguing and fabulous” fob chain.
In a historical coincidence, the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture also received recognition at the same exhibition for a pocket watch equipped with a tourbillon. Paris simultaneously celebrated the outstanding talents of FrédéricBoucheron and Constant Girard-Perregaux in their respective fields of jewellery and watchmaking.
Did the two men ever meet? Nobody knows. Nevertheless, more than a century later, the paths of the two Maisons, living embodiments of the ingenuity of their founders, would cross definitively…

Boucheron and Girard-Perregaux are two Brands at the very forefront of their field. The unique character of their products is the result of a fine balance between expertise honed through generations and a resolutely contemporary approach. Authenticity, extreme attention to detail, the use of the very highest-quality materials and a passion for beautiful craftsmanship are the beating heart of their business.
Several years ago, the two Maisons formed a working partnership based on these shared values. In 2010, this partnership culminated in the unveiling of a remarkable creation, the marriage of their respective talents and the fruit of their combined passion. The Ladyhawke Tourbillon, a falcon-encircled watch brought to life by the Tourbillon with three gold Bridges movement, sees Boucheron’s unrivalled jewellery expertise complemented superbly by Girard-Perregaux’s iconic movement - the first of its kind produced by the La Chaux-de-Fonds Haute Horlogerie Manufacture for another brand.

MILUS LAUNCHES THE TIRION RÉPÉTITION MINUTES TRIRETROGRADE WATCH IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Ever since 1919, Milus has stood for outstanding Swiss watchmaking art combined with mechanical finesse, exclusivity and a brilliant interaction of unique language of form and the most precious materials. Milus’ philosophy is based on combining movement and changeability in its outstanding timepieces and jewellery items. True to this principle, Milus’ exquisite novelty TIRION Répétition Minutes TriRetrograde is now available in the Middle East.
Through the combination of minute repetition and tri-retrograde function, Milus on the one hand underlines its watchmaking expertise and, at the same time, also the high art of developing a watch with an aesthetic and lasting language of form within its own company. After two years of intensive development, the traditional Biel company is launching this prestige watch as a limited edition of 50 pieces with own calibre. An extraordinary milestone in the corporate history of the Swiss watch brand.
Even today, minute repetition remains one of the major technical challenges in the art of watchmaking. Whilst this fine-sounding complication provided a useful function prior to the introduction of the electric light, today it enthuses experts and watch lovers through its unique complexity. Designed to indicate the time during the dark night-time hours, the minute repetition can, on demand, announce the hours, quarter-hours and minutes with a harmonious sound within the tiny dimensions of a wristwatch. Pureness of tone and fullness of sound are the challenges faced by the experts. Every minute repetition achieved is therefore presented as a masterpiece that is held in high esteem by watch connoisseurs thanks to the craftsman’s skills and precise attention to detail during manufacture. Long years of experience in the watchmaking art of minute repetition and a trained ear are indispensable for the production of this artefact.
For Milus, the launch of the TIRION Répétition Minutes TriRetrograde represents a significant step. With the complication minute repetition, combined with the fascinating play of the tri-retrograde seconds display that is characteristic of Milus, the company has achieved a high-precision and very ambitious timepiece in line with its philosophy and with an especially "highly personal" mark. Over 400 individual parts of the clockwork movement are put together in excess of more than 140 hours of meticulous work by watchmakers of the highest reputation. Each component is decorated by hand and is tested repeatedly beforehand in terms of form and composition in order to optimise the sound quality and the functional precision of the watch. It is important to find the right balance between the lowest possible volume of the ticking minutes and as recognisable a sound as possible of the minute repetition. The aim is to create an unforgettable sound, a highly personal acoustic signature which reflects the extraordinary language of form of the watches from this traditional company.
About MILUS

Milus remains true to the brand hallmark: perfect attention to detail and an exceptional and highly personal commitment in every area. The collection unites the history of the brand with unique designs, distinctive forms and a playful spirit. BAUME & MERCIER ULTRA - THIN WATCH NOW AVAILABLE IN THE MIDDLE EAST
Heir to the rich watchmaking heritage of Baume & Mercier, this collection pays tribute to the traditional expertise and the spirit of innovation of which William Baume remains the symbolic guardian.
Ultra-thin watches have always been synonymous with superior elegance and extreme technical sophistication. Baume & Mercier began to specialize in ultra-thin watches from 1920 onwards, and in 1965 the brand caused a sensation with the thinnest self-winding calendar watch of its era.
Baume & Mercier is now offering a special expression of its expertise in this field with this unique William Baume Ultra-Thin model. It differs from the previous version by three special features. The WB-UT002 movement manufactured by Valfleurier for Baume & Mercier is even more efficient, endowed with a power reserve amounting to 60 hours compared with 40 hours for the previous model. The watch is also 0.4 mm thicker while nonetheless remaining ultra-thin with a 6.2 mm profile. The case-back is now open to reveal the mechanical hand-wound movement, admirably adorned with “Côtes de Genève” on the mainplate and bridges, along with blued steel screws.
This special edition retains its silvered dial with “Vieux Panier” guilloché décor, its elegant javelin-shaped hands and its hand-stitched chestnut brown strap. Its XL 41 mm case is crafted in 18K red gold. Limited, numbered.

ILÉA HIGH JEWELLERY- MYSTERIES OF LIGHT AND SHADE FROM BAUME & MERCIER
Over one thousand diamonds sparkling against a dusky background: Baume & Mercier sets the stage for absolute contrasts in its unique High Jewelry collection, clothing its ultra-feminine ilea model in a fascinating chiaroscuro effect.
This unique model, issued in a strictly limited edition, mysteriously alternates between the intense matt blackness of a white gold frame coated with a PVD surface treatment, and the luminous sparkle of a full setting composed of 970 diamonds. This original and daring alliance between darkness and light accentuates Baume & Mercier’s undeniable creativity and expertise in designing ladies’ High Jewelry models.
The stunningly beautiful iléa High Jewelry model is a vivid symbol of this proud heritage. It perpetuates the brand’s tradition of creating a limited-edition jewelry model every year by giving full creative rein to the talents of its Design Studio team. This year, Baume & Mercier designer Sabine Rochat has revisited the iléa model she created in 2008, while allowing her imagination to run wild. She has dared to use a matt black PVD coating on white gold as a perfect means of highlighting the thousand diamonds flowing like a river over the round, sensual shapes of the iléa model. The full-set, wider dial flange provides a broader perspective on the three-level dial: a transparent layer of sapphire bearing finely metallized Roman numerals and the Baume & Mercier brand name, is fitted between the gem-set dial base and the upper sapphire crystal. On the bracelet, a convex sapphire crystal also covers the gem-set inner links, thereby preserving both the glittering sparkle of the diamonds and the graceful curve of the band.
For this exceptional creation, the watch diameter has been enlarged to 34 mm (compared with 30 mm for the classic iléa model) so as to accommodate a mechanical self-winding movement.
The spectacular oscillating weight, appearing in the same matt black shade as the case and adorned with Côtes de Genève, may be admired through the sapphire crystal case back.
Thus arrayed in its dazzling garment of light and shade, the unique iléa High Jewelry watch is a perfect illustration of the blend of technical and esthetic creativity characterizing Baume & Mercier watches since 1830.
MATTHIAS SCHULER, CEO OF ROGER DUBUIS:” THE CRISIS HAS STRUCTURALLY CHANGED THE MARKET”
ROGER DUBUIS was founded in 1995 and, since then, has been injecting its DNA with resolutely new and bold genetic codes. Positioned on the cusp of haute horlogerie and adhering to its exacting and exclusive criteria, the brand established its head office in 2001 in Meyrin / Geneva, where two buildings housing ultra-modern industrial equipment were constructed for the Manufacture. In scarcely eleven years, the Manufacture has created its 28 complicated, often highly complicated, movements. While their technical characteristics require the most traditional horological savoir-faire, the production and manufacturing rely on cutting-edge expertise. All ROGER DUBUIS movements bear the ‘Poinçon de Genève’ and, since 2003, have been equipped with the Manufacture’s own balance-spring, positioning the brand’s products at the very apex of prestige haute horlogerie in Switzerland.
Since 1996, ROGER DUBUIS creates watch collections each line has a powerful personality and a unique identity. An exuberant and original jewellery line was added to its portfolio in 2004. In search of a new lease of life, the ROGER DUBUIS Manufacture joined Richemont (one of the world's leading luxury goods groups) in 2008, becoming the ninth watch manufactory to join this very exclusive group. This is an extraordinarily favourable union for the ‘enfant terrible’ of Geneva’s exclusive watchmakers as it will benefit from all the advantages that come from being a member of Richemont.
Ø How the Economic crisis affects the Luxury sector?
The last 18 months or so has been a challenging period. The global economic crisis, which stemmed from the over-expansion of credit, saw consumer confidence in most markets collapse in late 2008 after a boom period up to September of that year.
The crisis has structurally changed the market. The market is more concentrated: larger brands gaining market share and clients are paying more attention to detail. The crisis has as consequence deep changes in consumer behavior as we experienced with our clients: they focus more on quality, they are looking for experiencing the brand (service), they want understated luxury items and they purchase more carefully.
Ø What’s the plan for ROGER DUBUIS in UAE, Saudi, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman and Lebanon?
For the next years, we are planning to focus our attention on our distribution. We want to have a very exclusive distribution network in this region with the best possible partners, the best stores and the best visibility. We have started already opening Corners in the Gulf region, and by the end of the year, one third of our distribution network will be in the form of Corners or Shop-in-shops. We will keep expanding in the near future.
Ø Can you tell us the size of the Luxury watches in the Middle East ? Market share for UAE % or USD?
As per the “Federation Suisse de l'horlogerie” report, for the first 7 months of the year (Jan-July), 2010 is 20.6% above 2009, and 8.4% below the same period in 2008, in Value. What is interesting to notice though, is that when we take a close look at the Unit Wholesale Value, the Middle East Average is 9.38% higher than the global average. The gap was only 5.22% in 2009, while at its peak - just before the recession - the gap was 16.27%.
Basically, this indicates that the effects of the recession are still here; however, their impact is fading away slowly, but surely. We believe that next SIHH will allow us to confirm this positive trend.
As for the UAE, it has ranked for the same period as the 10th importer of Swiss watches with a total of USD 312 Million (316.9 Million Swiss Francs). This is approximately 3.63% Market share in comparison with the rest of the world. Greater China (Hong Kong & Mainland China) takes the lead with a total of USD 2.22 Billion (2.25 Billion Swiss Francs) worth of Swiss watches imported in the country, accounting for 25.75% of the Swiss Exports.
The impressive thing, is that the import per Capita in the UAE, is amongst the highest in the world after Hong Kong and Singapore.
Ø How many boutiques ROGER DUBUIS have around the world? How many you are planning to open?
ROGER DUBUIS has 170 points of sales worldwide and has currently six Boutiques: Geneva, Shanghai, Hong-Kong (2), Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Soon, Kiev, Bangkok and Moscow will be opened.
Ø What is the special markets in the region?
Each region and each market has its own specificities, its own taste and its own challenges. The Gulf region, as a whole, is quite special. We have noticed that the customer in the region is quite well aware of the latest novelties and latest trends. Accordingly, the Gulf customer likes to see a novelty reaching the market first. This was one of the main reasons why we had our latest watch - the EasyDiver - launched in Dubai before anywhere else in the world.
Ø The size of the Luxury market in the Middle East?
“Luxury market” is a wide term…!
Ø How does the crisis affected the watch industry?
As said previously, the crisis has structurally changed the market, including for the watchmaking industry: lots of small companies disappeared and largest companies had to revise their global strategy in terms of products, communication and distribution. ROGER DUBUIS has taken advantage of this difficult but challenging period to optimise its operations and transform them into opportunities.
The crisis has intensified competition and the companies had to adapt their offer to the market to ensure its viability. Brands had to create more awareness by educating consumers about product quality and brand heritage: customers pay more attention to the content (movement) of the watch than before and are looking for sustainable brands. In addition to that, companies must differentiate themselves. Last but not least, brands also had to focus on customer relationship management to personalize one-to-one contacts and services.
Ø What does ROGER DUBUIS is offering this year as new models?
ROGER DUBUIS will unveil its new watch collection at the 2011 SIHH (17-21 January). Until then, we keep it secret; I can only tell you that we will be presenting a new watch collection for men, one for ladies as well as new chronograph movement. New models will be exposed, including some declinations of dials of models recently presented.
Ø Do you think the Luxury sector will continue to grow? By what percentage?
The luxury market and the watch industry will keep growing if companies keep in mind that customers behaviour have changed in their way of purchasing: watch brands must keep developing their creativity while offering watch with a “true content”. Clients are looking for quality associated to creativity with a true value for money ratio.
Ø When did the Luxury industry started globally?
Luxury has a long history: let’s refer to the famed Silk Road that started in China in the second century BC! Regarding the hard luxury industry, I would say that it has been strongly developed after the second world war and by then, the industry has developed more more exceptional and extravagant products!
