Winners to be Announced at ICSC RECon Middle East & North Africa
NEW YORK, June 13, 2011 – The marketplace is an integral part of Middle Eastern culture as the traditional Suk is considered by many to be the first organized shopping centre. Today, the Middle East is home to some of the largest and most advance enclosed malls and shopping centres in the world and in order to properly acknowledge the innovativeness of the centres in this region, the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Middle East Council of Shopping Centres (MECSC) have launched the Middle East and North Africa Shopping Centre Awards. The awards will be presented during ICSC RECon Middle East & North Africa (MENA), taking place in Dubai, United Emirates from November 28-29, 2011. RECon MENA is the largest gathering of shopping centre professionals in the region who meet for education, networking, and to promote new developments in the region.
"ICSC has a long tradition of recognizing the exceptional ingenuity of shopping centres around the world," said Michael P. Kercheval, president and CEO of ICSC. "We are excited to extend that tradition to the Middle East and North Africa region and look forward to seeing all of the projects and programs that apply to win one of these highly anticipated new awards."
The Middle East and North Africa Shopping Centre Awards are a prime opportunity for shopping centre owners, developers, management companies, architects, designers and retailers to showcase their efforts in design, development and operation of their centres and stores. Awards will be presented for outstanding achievement in the following three categories; Marketing, Design and Development, and Retail. Additionally, a Sustainability Award could be presented to entrants within the Retail and Design and Development categories if the judges deem that the necessary criteria have been reached.
Gold winners of the ICSC Middle East and North Africa Shopping Centre Awards automatically qualify to win the ICSC Best-of-the-Best Global “VIVA” (Vision, Innovation, Value, Achievement) Award in their category
All entries must be submitted by Thursday, September 8, 2011. Entries must be submitted online at www.icsc.org/menaawards and must include a fully completed entry form as well as a detailed entry summary. Additional supporting materials can be uploaded in the indicated sections.
