DM launches “Yallah Walk” campaign

Dubai Municipality on Saturday launched "Yallah Walk" campaign, which is the largest awareness campaign to attract the public to the walking tracks in the Emirate of Dubai. The campaign, which will last until March 19, was inaugurated by Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development in the presence of Ibrahim Abdul Malik, Secretary-General of the Public Authority for Youth Welfare and Sports, Eng. Hussein Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, and other senior officials of the Municipality.
Lootah said that the launch of this project comes from the keenness and responsibilities of Dubai Municipality towards the members of the community to raise awareness of the importance of walking, the benefits to the public health, and the need to instil healthy behaviours among members of society in order to create a healthy generation conscious of the importance of this type of useful sports.
Lootah thanked the sponsors of the campaign, Al Rawabi, Fitness First, Emax, Fun City, Al Ahli Driving Centre, Dubai Media Incorporated, Anlene, Roche, Emirates Arthritis Foundation and All As One for their support.
During the opening ceremony which was held at Safa Park, a series of events were launched including Fitness First – a warm-up exercise (GX experimental, GX warm-up and Body Balance), a body fitness analysis, a symposium conducted by Dr. Humeira Badsha about the benefits of walking, a demonstration and awareness camp about all matters relating to fitness and walking, in addition to various entertainment activities.

A number of awards, including the grand prize of two cars, were announced for those who walk the longer distances during the period of the campaign.
